Know what you want and why

Before you install a gate or a fence, ask yourself what the purpose is for installing it.  Is it just to keep the dog in the yard, then budget fencing will serve your purpose. On the other hand if it is more decorative fencing you want to add value to your house or to add privacy, you will be looking at something more involved.  Whatever its purpose, a fence or gate can function in many ways, to match your needs.

Consider your environment

Before buying a fence it is critically important to consider the environment where you live.  Bunbury, being a coastal town, presents severe challenges to the durability of the gate or a fence. The coastal environment with its high salt content is very corrosive towards fences and all metal finishes around your house.

Finishes

Fences and gates are generally powder coated to match in with the colour décor of most homes making them aesthetically pleasing.  It is important to know that powder coating is not a protective coating but rather for decorating purposes.  It is important to consider the option of coastal protection which will give extra protection to your fence and gate.

It should also be noted that Powder Coating over Hot dip Galvanizing (HDG) doesn’t allow for a 100 % smooth finish.  This is because the HDG bubbles up in the baking process. In order to protect the steel HDG is designed to sacrifice itself when exposed to the elements.

Shire and neighbourhood regulations

Shire and neighbourhood rules may specify certain products, styles or colours that are to be used in your area.  Ask how far a fence has to be set back from footpaths and property boundary and find out if your fence project needs a building permit.

Warranty

Warranties are only as good as the company that back them up.  It is therefore important to know how long the company has been in business and who is providing a 20 year warranty, what is the likelihood that the company will still be around in 20 years.

Fencing Unlimited has been in operation for 22 years.  Our track record speaks for itself.  We offer an unconditional 1 year warranty on workmanship and warranties on products that range from 1 to 7 years.  At Fencing Unlimited we own our own powder coating factory in order to give us complete control over our product and to be able to best meet our client’s need. At Fencing Unlimited we only use accredited installers that subscribe to our code of conduct and ethics.  Contact us 9725 6800
